After the Storm

After the Nor'easter blew through, the weather was gorgeous! Too bad it was the end of the week! Nevertheless, we were able to get out and about again. The water was still pretty high, and of course the girlie wanted to run out into it. But we had fun anyway!

Enjoying Ourselves Anyway

who cares that it's raining I've got "cackers"!
yeah, you wish you were me!
big girl wearing big girl flip flops
please don't take my picture, I'm not clean yet!
to be continued...

Before

Kim and I drove north on the highway just a couple of miles to find this. This was still hours before the storm. We were absolutely amazed by what we saw.

Hwy. 12 - the only road in and out of town
a side road that runs parallel to 12 - this is where Kim and I parked to go take pictures
when we first arrived
there were people staying in these houses. notice how the water has knocked down the fence.
standing on a foot bridge that goes down to the beach
notice the little overhang, it is normally around 6 feet tall or so. after the storm there was so much sand under it Emma couldn't even walk under it. there was maybe foot and a half clearance.

Kim and I didn't stay very long for concern of how quick the water was rising due to high tide, but notice how much higher the water was.

these were taken from behind the house where we parked the car

there is a new movie out called "Nights in Rodanthe" written by Nicholas Sparks. the house where it was filmed is the very last house in the picture. we couldn't get any closer because of the flooding. the house has been condemed for a couple of years because of it's location. We did not expect it to survive the storm, but it was still there two days later. Nathan and I walked down to it, and the sand has eroded away so much that you can see the foundation for over half of the house. it's a beautiful house, and I've always loved it. too bad it's in such a poor location. wish I would've gotten pictures because I'm not sure it will be there the next time we go.

Photos, Photos, and More Photos

We bought Emma this life vest so that she can swim in the water with little support from us. While we were there, she actually kicked her feet and paddled her hands at the same time! She wouldn't have gotten anywhere or stayed afloat, but we were amazed that she is understanding the whole concept. She loves swimming so much that she no longer wants to be put in any type of floatie, which is why we got the life vest. She gets heavy for Mommy to hold after a while, so this helps her to float while Mommy or Daddy keeps her stabalized. Lots of fun!!!

Well with the storm and wind and rain, the internet was very intermittent so there was never a guarantee for a connection. That is why I'm a little late in posting more pictures. Therefore I'm going to bombard everyone with lots and lots of pictures.

Going through the storm was awesome! It was amazing to just watch what a little wind can do to an island with just some sand and water. We were literally trapped on the island because the only road out was closed for over 24 hours due to the storm and flooding. Wicked! I took some pictures as the wind was starting to pick up and a little before the flooding really started. I did not get any after pics though. I'm kicking myself now because of it, but was concerned about getting the camera too full of salt and sand.

Overall the trip was a blast. We didn't get to spend too much time on the beach, but it made us grateful to have the heated pool. Okay, enough talking...on to the pics.

More Beach Pics

We are having such a great time, even though the weather hasn't exactly cooperated. We are currently experiencing a Nor'easter that will stick around until at least Thursday, but we are not discouraged! It hasn't been raining just REALLY windy, so we are definitely utilizing the pool. We got the girlie a life vest so that she can swim like a big girl yet have some sort of help. She is getting so big that Mommy has a hard time holding her in the pool without any type of flotation device.

Tuesday we just hung around the house and swam in the pool. In the afternoon, Kim and Mommy went on their annual outing to the scrapbook store. This time Mamaw was able to come with us. All of the swimming and lots of playtime is really wearing the girlie out! She hasn't napped this well in a long time!!! More time for Mommy to scrapbook! :)
Well, the pictures aren't loading, so I'll try again later.

More Beach Pics

Walking around Ocracoke

Hatteras Lighthouse

Today (Monday) we went to Ocracoke Island. This was the first time in three years that we were able to go and actually walk around. It drizzled up until the time we got there and stopped right until we were almost at the car, then the heavens opened up and it started raining. On our way back to the house we stopped at Hatteras lighthouse, and it was only lightly raining there. So overall the day was fun. The girlie enjoyed walking around and seeing all of the shops and everything.

Beach Pics

What to say. We are having a ton of fun here at the beach. The waves are outrageously high this year, so we have to be extra careful with the girlie. Otherwise it's been a blast. Sunday we hung out on the beach and swam in the pool. So relaxing...just what this Mommy needs. :)
